This thesis is going to be a multifaceted project that includes print and digital media. The digital media component will include a responsive website that can be viewed on a computer as well as a smart device. The website will incorporate interactive infographics as well as game components. Posters and signage will be the components of print media for the thesis. The posters will be infographics that can incorporate between print and digital QR codes to view the interactive infographics. The infographics, both interactive and print, will depict and illustrate how the Finger Lakes Region, specifically Canandaigua Lake, was formed by glaciers. The evidence or structures left behind by glaciers as well as glaciers themselves will be covered in the infographics.
The project focus is primarily interaction design. There will be one ten second animation which reveals the motion of a glacier and its internal components.
The digital dimensions will vary because of the responsive design for the Web. It will be able to work on desktops, and/ or smart phones. The three prints will be poster size, 2 ft. by 3 ft. The posters will be infographics from the interactive infographics on the website and they will be converted for print.
The data will be coded using HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Flash Canvas. I will code the interactions, animation, and the responsive web page that contains the infographics and animation, and the QR codes for augmented reality.
I will be prototyping the geotaging component to demonstrate how it would work, and how it would work with the other components, such as the website infographics and the printed posters at their locations.
The topics covered will include: glaciers with the sub topics being glacier formation, glacier movement, glacial land structures, and lake formation.
There will be extensive interactivity through the use of the website and gamification of the information. Interaction will be through button interaction. Also the interactive infographics will utilize hover and click states.
There will be a narrative component related to glacier action.
The plot will be a visual story of how the glaciers formed the Finger Lakes, specifically Canandaigual Lake and area. There will be one character developed.
